He was born on October 29, 1953 in Sloeshtica, Macedonia. He graduated from and received his master’s degree from the Faculty of Philology of the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje. He has been a full professor, founder and president of the International University Europa Prima for Audiovisual Arts – Skopje-Paris-Essen-Rotterdam since 2007. Jordan Plevneš is a poet, playwright, novelist and pedagogue. He has taught Macedonian language and literature at the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations in Paris. He has taught creative writing at European and American universities, the University of Texas at Dallas, Yale University and the Université d’Orsay in Paris. Since 2011, he has been elected as a member of the doctoral studies at the Panthéon Assas University at the Sorbonne.
At the same time, he has a European and global literary career with a large number of published and performed works in thirty languages on all continents. He is the author of the following books: „The Theory of Poison“ (poetry, 1980), „Erigon“ (drama, 1982), „Macedonian Cough“ and „Yugoslav Antithesis“ (dramas, 1987), „R“ (drama, 1987), „Demon Dionysus“ (study, 1989), „Free Hunt“ (1989), „Underground Republic“ (1990), „The Ignorant“ (1991), „Notre Femme de Paris“ (1994), „Happiness is a New Idea in Europe“ (1997), „The Last Man, the Last Woman“ (1999), „The Last Day of Misirkov“ (2003), „The Eighth Wonder of the World“ (novel, 2005), „Kill Poetry and the Fatherland“ (poetry, 2011), Novel about the Secret Book (2011) „The Eternal House“ (drama, 2013). He has received several literary awards and recognitions. In 2015, the Macedonian National Theatre published an exclusive edition of Plevneš’s „Collected Plays“. In 2017, the publishing house „Arka“ from Serbia published an anthology of Plevneš’s plays. In the same year, the famous Parisian publisher „Le Temps des Cerises“ published his „Collected Plays“.
From December 2000 to 2005, he was the Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to France, Spain, Portugal and to UNESCO. Since 2005, he has been Vice-President of the UNESCO International Association for Dialogue among Civilizations in Paris, France. He was awarded the high distinction of „Knight of the Highest Order of Literature and Arts“ by the French Republic for his engagement in the development of culture and friendly relations between France and Macedonia. He is the winner of the Grand Prix of the French Academy for Life and Creative Work. He is the President of the South-Eastern Europe Festival in Paris and Berlin (SEE a Paris, SEEFF a Berlin), co-president of the French Film Festival in Ohrid and founder of the „Actor of Europe“ theater festival in Prespa. He is a member of the European Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters.
He has been a member of the IRASA Academy since 2026 in the Art Department.
